Mom

You know what doesn't suck?

Having your Mom call with one thought, suggestion or idea after another to help when you are down.

And you grumble and say "I know that already, Mom" or "Of course I can't quit everything and move in with you, don't be ridiculous" or "No, I don't need any money".

And she apologizes and tells you to tell her when she's being too invasive or meddling. She just wants you to know she'd do anything to help you. She tells you you're beautiful and smart and talented and all those things she's been saying for years to which you always reply like a 14-year old, "Mom, you're my Mom, you have to say that."

And you can sense through the phone her utter exasperation and eye roll at your comment.

And then you hang up and stare out the window and maybe you get a little teary-eyed because of course you love that she still cares and harasses you and wants to fix things and says you're pretty which is what she said in the 80's when you were absolutely not pretty but that's your Mom and you know how incredibly lucky you are to have your Mom still trying to take care of you even when you feign impatience.
