Things You Do Before Work

On a Friday at 7am, dust off your mountain bike, give in to a friend's relentless invitations to ride and go flying (interspersed with death-like grips on the brakes) along the trails above a crystal clear coastline.

This is what off-season is, baby! Mountain biking, the Dailey Method, yoga, bowling - whatever comes up. And though I always like to say I train to be fit enough to do anything with a valiant attempt, when one doesn't mountain bike, one does not have mountain biking skills. I do not have mountain biking skills. But I have big lungs and strong legs and most importantly, I had a blast. And in that warm, slightly tired, post-activity afterglow I started contemplating a better bike, coming out to Marin to ride 1-2x a week before work, cooler gear, developing mad-strong legs to propel my running - I dreamed of becoming....a mountain biker!

One week later, I haven't been on my bike since. And now the rain is moving in. Which means ski season is upon us. (At last!) And I'm really actually lingering in off-season too long which means its time to start focusing on running again which means I have to get serious, when I'm not skiing, I mean.

Mountain bike dreams, I WILL be back.
