New Shoes Part 1
This is the first in a series on shoes. Shoes I love but don't wear, shoes I wear but am not sure I love, shoes too small, shoes too high, shoes I can't live without out, shoes I should forget about it, shoes for my glamazonian notions, for my cowgirl dreams, for my Sex and the City nights out with those kinds of girls who get dressed up for girls night out.
Today we represent with shoes to motivate; the shoe we too often need and put off for too long. The running shoe.
Months ago after my meniscus surgery I had thoughts of getting the best shoes money could buy to protect my knees as I started running again. And of course, I didn't do anything about it. Things were good, my sneaks were fine, my mileage was low. My running has been slow to kick back into gear this year, but not because of knee pain. It's been an odd lack of oomph and motivation. So when I finally got around to getting some new shoes what I noticed immediately wasn't how good my feet felt - I actually got a hot spot around my arch - but how good new shoes felt! That close comfort, that bouncy spring, that full cushioned heel. I dashed out for almost two hours feeling lighter and zippier and just happier with a run than I had in a long time.
My new sneaks gave me that little boost out the door I'd been missing. I mean, no duh a new pair of shoes can pick a girl up, but I hadn't considered sneakers as the pick-me-up that say, a cute new pair of platform shoes or Frye boots would be. Yes, it's only been one run but just that one run, for the $100 they cost me, was worth it. I almost signed up for a 50k the next night (!) - I tried - but thank goodness it was sold out. So new sneakers not only giving me motivation but also delusional thoughts of running long in the very near future. Well played, sneakers, well played.
