Getting older
I stole this from my doctor's office last week making me officially:
a) that person who steals magazines from a doctor's office
b) that person who just heard they have arthritis
c) stupid, because later on at home I saw the words "FREE Take Home Copy" on the top corner of the magazine
d) old
I suppose I should be grateful that I've lived to be 45 feeling almost invincible in my pursuit of fun and adventure. It's what I've always embraced about my size and strength - a sense of invincibility. And while I don't intend on slowing down much there are new words trying to find a place in my brain: doctors, arthritis, torn meniscus, surgery, older, low impact activities.
But I don't hear any death knells yet for anything I love. I was never bound to run 100 miles. My window of opportunity may be shrinking to pull a 360 on skis but it's not dead. In fact, even though my training for the Miwok 100 went out the window, and I'm pretty much out of commission for the majority of Crossfit WODs right now, my new focus is training for surgery. I am ALL about the prehab. Already I've learned to readjust my goals - it's leg lifts and clams and ab work and more leg lifts. Strong quads, strong knees - I'm going for a recover PR time.
So you know, one window closes, another opens, and I get a new magazine. It's not exactly the life I was leading before but for now, I'm learning to make the best of it.
