Dave Grohl: Mountain biker

In honor of the excellent new Foo Fighters release, Wasting Light, we celebrate all things Foo here today at LATO. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no one in the public eye seems to have more fun with life, with music, and with himself than Dave Grohl. Long live Foo!

I bought the CD today - yes, an ACTUAL CD - and popped it into my car stereo. First thoughts? Road trip, volume up, windows down, head banging, finger tapping, knee bouncing, hair flying fun. Likely to get me wired by the time I land at work or pulled over by a highway patrol car. This Foos boosts your mph by another 10 miles - be aware. I'm still working my way through the disc but so far, so Foo.

If you didn't see it, check out the killer performance last night on Letterman with the band in full Beatles mode.

From Us Magazine, a few nuggets I culled about Dave Grohl:

2. I still listen to Ace of Base.

3. My entire life, I've had the same recurring dream about a house I've never been to.

7. I never took lessons to play the drums. I learned to play on pillows in my bedroom.

8. I try to go mountain biking five days a week.

9. My favorite drink is Brennivin Icelandic schnapps.

10. Lacrosse was my favorite sport growing up. I was a goalie for years.

13. My parents almost named me Hans. So my nickname as a child was "Hans Grohlo." (It was the '70s.)

16. I hate talking on the phone.

19. I was the fifth drummer of Nirvana.

23. My hero as a child was Jim Craig, the legendary hockey goalie from the 1980 U.S. Olympic team. I had a chance to meet him before I performed at the 2002 winter Olympics. It made my night.

24. My main method of transportation is motorcycle (weather permitting).

I'm pulling out my Foo Fighters tee tomorrow - an homage to youth, to simple pleasures; to waiting in line overnight to score tickets to a show; to the hyper-excitement I felt when I was young and obsessing over a new album from a favorite band. Hello Blondie, Parallel Lines.

Look for me heading south on 101 waving my rock hands and cranking some Foo.

How about polishing up that mt. bike and hitting the trails yourself - in honor of Dave!
