Re-Endurables and Robert Earl Keen

One season ends and another resumes. Goodbye paddle, hello group runs! Back with the Endurables for my first Saturday trail run in forever. Started in the rain at Muir Beach with a group of about 28, rising up and out of the fog over Heather Cutoff towards Pantoll Station, down on the Dipsea over fast, twisty singletrack, up sweet Steep Ravine and back down into the fog again.

19 miles over almost 4 hours, catching up with some of my favorite people, sharing stories, planning adventures, seeing old familiar faces from years past on the trails. It was an awesome re-entry with my training peeps, a full morning of calorie-burning, lung-heaving socializing against spectacular scenery.

It was also the 10th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend and my new most favorite performer is Robert Earl Keen. After a quick shower, I rode my bike over to GG Park to catch Richard Thompson performing. Superb. Jazzy. Then a couple of songs from Gillian Welch before David texted me to come join him at Rooster Stage where Buddy Miller was in full jam with Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffin. Smoking set, much better acoustics on the smaller stage. Tina made it after some considerable bike troubles to arrive just in time - with wine and snacks no less! - for REK to start and she gave me a quick tutorial on REK background, favorite songs and what to download. I was pure grasshopper, an utter neophyte. But I loved him immediately. I think it was a contact high.

Check out REK here. Sensational set, finished with a killer cover of I Know You Rider and his own The Road Goes on Forever both of which got the crowd on its feet and dancing. Awesome to share the music with you, Tina. The road goes on forever but the party never ends.

Have you ever taken a photo with an iPhone? You can see yourself while taking it. It's like looking into a mirror that takes your picture. It's weird. But I digress. iPhone pics courtesy of Tina.
