5151 Push ups

It came to a relatively anticlimactic end today - our Crossfit push up challenge. 101 days of push ups adding one more each day leading up to the big 1-0-1 and a celebratory WOD of 101 push ups for time (i.e. as fast as you can rep them out). 5151 push ups in just over 3 months; 25 started, 7-8 made it to the end. Kudos to all who gave it their best and big props to the 5151 crew! We did it!

So while it was great to reach the final day, be done with it and high five to the effort, the real excitement came from the ongoing Weekend Warrior competition beforehand and watching our gym go head to head in team competition with Crossfit Moxie from San Jose.

Mad Dawg was hosting the work out so peeps came out to volunteer and support our foursome and to watch in awe as both teams pulled out killer, sweat-drenched, lung-heaving efforts over the span of cleans, burpees, muscle-ups, toes to bar and partner carries. It was close going into burpees but slowly, steadily, MDF pulled away. The whole thing was ADD Crossfit. 150% all out for just over 15 minutes.

Once the competition was over - and the two teams were already popping beers - the rest of us lined up to do the same on a less frenetic, certainly less competitive pace. And when that was done? THEN we did the 101 push ups for time. So you see - the push up finale was reduced to - wait, what? We still have to do it for time? Ack.

Then we BBQ'd Paleo-style, but with beer, and dissected the performances of the day, the other team, dating, skiing, cycling, Paleo and whatever free-flowed into the conversation as we sat around in the sun, in our post-WOD high, the residue of chalk still on our shorts, enjoying the day and each other's company. It was the kind of organic Saturday I don't often have - no epic training runs, no races, no commitments to scramble off to. Just the ability to let the day unfold naturally and unexpectedly. Perfection.

Good luck in the playoffs! Saul, what's our next challenge??
