Jersey Girl

Who remembers driving to the shore in a yellow Wildcat convertible, smoking cloves and blasting Meat Loaf from the tape deck? A car whose complete and utter cool factor you were barely mature enough to appreciate, cigarettes that gave you a massive head rush and music with lyrics that begged to be shouted at top decibel, head thrown back, permed hair whipping madly about as you tried not to singe yourself?

Seriously, some of the best road trips and best road-tripping music ever. Becky, if you're out there, the memories fade but they'll never go away. Kind of like the sun damage.

Meat Loaf, the Jersey Shore, baby oil-induced sunburns, Tabs, Michael Jackson, body surfing, The Police, tanning contests, my first cocktail, Cheap Trick, bad perms, The Kinks, cloves, cruisers, Vuarnets, Jams, BBQs, General Hospital, eye-liner, boys. It seemed like the height of coolness back then. Thank god we didn't have digital cameras.

I remember smoking cloves but there was no convertible involved.
