Goodbye John Hughes

And so the summer of death continues with the sad news that John Hughes has died of a heart attack.

Hughes ignited the pulse of the youth market dialing into a pop culture rich with teenage stereotypes, family dynamics and awkward romances. James Spader, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Paxton, Jennifer Grey, Alan Ruck, Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick - a legion of actors started their careers with Hughes, while others, though unrecognizable by name, will always be fondly remembered for their characters (hello, Jake Ryan).

Throughout college my favorite movie was The Breakfast Club (view original trailer). In honor of John Hughes, I leave you with a few gems from the movie I used to know word for word. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller. RIP, John, RIP.

Bender: Well, I don't know any lepers but I'm not going to run out and join one of their fucking clubs.
Dork: I'm in the physics club, too.
Bender: Excuse me a sec. What are you babbling about?
Dork: Well, what I said was I'm in the math club, uh, the Latin, and the physis club...physics club.
Bender: Hey, Cherry. Do you belong to the physics club?
Claire: That's an academic club.
Bender: So?
Claire: So academic clubs aren't the same as other kinds of clubs.
Bender: Ah, but to dorks like him, they are. What do you guys do in your club?
Dork: Well, in physics we....we talk about physics, properties of physics.
Bender: So it's sorta social - demented and sad - but social. Right?
