Sisters

It's sad enough when your family lives spread out across the country, but particularly so when your only sister is on the opposite coast. A sister is so many things. She can be a best friend, a mirror of reflections, an adversary, a stark reminder of your past, a cheerleader for your future, an open heart, a confidante, a wake-up call. I don't get to see my sister more than 2 or 3x a year but each time we're together I learn more about myself and more about her. Maybe it's something completely new or a change in the way we're evolving or a revelation into how we've become the people we are. Either way, I'm always reminded again of how much I love her company.

In between bailing from the financial world and starting a new job in the advertising world, my sister Brooke came out to visit me and SF for 48 hours. Having been sequestered in the dark, grey, cold of a New York winter, she leapt at the chance to be outside in the sun saying that she already felt healthier just being in California. (We do have that effect, don't we? Lol.)

So we bounced from one beautiful overlook to another snapping pics as I excitedly explained I'd run there and paddled there and swam there. We thrift-shopped and wig store-shopped; we ate french fries and drank beer; we saw movies and talked in bed until falling asleep.
And I missed her as soon as I dropped her off at the airport. But true to form, she left me with things to consider about myself and things I newly admired in her. Next time you have to bring workout clothes, Brooke! The things I could do with you to send you back to NY feeling really healthy! Just give me a week. ONE week. You'll love it, I promise.
