Fast Times
Yikes, it's been over a week since I've written a word. It's been a bit of a whirlwind. Let's recap.
Benito and Rangsiwan said their vows last Saturday and shared their wedding celebration with friends and family at Azul later that night. They both looked stunning in their wedding clothes but changed shortly after we arrived into more appropriate "get-your-dance-on" attire. Still fab-looking. They're now in Hawaii doing newly married people stuff. Congratulations you guys!
Bob turned 44 with a "don't-flip-your-wig" party thrown by his boyfriend, Jeremy. I was psyched to finally buy a real wig - something I'd have on hand for parties and years to come - so I went bold but not completely off the charts and nabbed a platinum-yellow blonde wig with long bangs and feathered sides. It so rocked. I love it. Walking into the party after the wedding reception (I'd put the wig on en route), I was asked by a group of boys if I was a girl or a boy. Thinking in a crowd of gay men that there was a compliment in there somewhere I feigned mild protest as they back-pedaled calling me stunning and buff either way. Oooohkay. Anyway, great party, fun people. Happy Birthday, Bob!

Sunday was all football - go Arizona! - and more friends and celebrations. Stopped for a few Steeler moments with Pete, Liz, Andrea and John before heading up to Mill Valley to feast on Jessica's mom's meat-wrapped-around-meat meataganza. Wish I had pictures of the feast but left camera at Pete's. Suffice to say, it was hearty and German and warm and delicious and I vowed to go on a water fast the next day to make up for it. Note: that never happened.
Monday, Kim and I went to see one of the Sketchfest performances at Cobb's Comedy. I'd never been but discovered a delicious new drink they had on the menu - Skinny Bitch. Diet Coke and vanilla Vodka. Mmmm. The performance was Celebrity Autobiography - comedians reading from the actual autobiographies of celebrities. It was hysterical, obviously aided by brilliant comedic timing, pauses, and vacant stares for effect. The performers were great - Will Forte (from my fave SNL clip of Peyton Manning and WF dancing in the locker room to the Herb Albert classic, Casino Royale), Laraine Newman, Michael McKean, Scott Thompson, Annette O'Toole. And the celebs represented - Kenny Loggins, Elizabeth Taylor, Suzanne Somers, Neil Sedaka, Burt Reynolds, NSync. When you hear a celebrity's words being painfully, embarassingly read aloud you realize you have nothing to fear with your own writing being anywhere near as out there in the world. Good times.

Tuesday was INAUGURATION DAY! So great, so memorable, so moving. Am waiting to hear from friends who were there for the festivities. GOOD MORNING, AMERICA!

Wednesday was Girls Night and Jennie you raised the bar! Presentation, preparation, even your man-chef - it was utterly fantastic. Too bad all the healthy goods were outweighed by my devouring the 2 cupcakes at the end of the night. So worth it, though. Girls nights always provide interesting conversation, revelations, laughs, plans and delicious new foodie ideas.
Friday was the debut of Knowing Pains, the book my essay was included in, on The Today Show! (View here.) Molly Rosen and 2 of the contributors sat down with the female co-host (not Meredith Viera - I'm not sure where she was that day) and talked about how the book came to be and some of the individual stories. It was a huge coup for Molly who's put so much of her time and money into the effort, as well as for everyone who worked on the book. One of the writers emailed to say that sales had shot up on Amazon but I haven't heard anything else. Interestingly enough, that same day, I had an interview with the Noe Valley Voice as one of 3 N.V. authors featured in the book. BIG book day for Knowing Pains PR. BIG.
Which leads me up to today and the beautiful run we did on Mt. Tam this morning. The skies were cloudy and misty as I left the city with Mary, Jenny and Rick in tow. As we climbed up towards Mt. Home Inn we could see the clouds drifting up off the hillsides. In the trees, the colors were vibrant from the rain - dark reds and rich greens. Everything seemed more alive.
Even the smells were invigorating. We did a fast, familiar first loop off of Matt Davis and then something new back up towards the East Peak along a small, steep, unrunnable trail I think was called Temelpa Trail. While the sweeping views of the bay area were invisible, the fog and mist added a more moody element, enveloping us as we ran and hiked, nestled in the trees.

A long 1.5-2 mile dowhill revealed better views with a hint of blue sky appearing just as we reached our cars. It was about 13 miles and as always, I felt deliriously happy afterwards. Trail runner's high. Never fails.

Thank god some rain has come to California. Happy weekend, everyone!

Good times Sameee. Ran into Gunderson on Matt Davis and ended up running back with him to Tennessee Valley. At the top of the Pirates Cove climb, two pretty ladies were resting on their mountain bikes. One of them asked me if I was an "endurance runner", when I said yes she asked how many miles. They gushed a "wow" when I gave them a figure. I need more encounters like that. More cowbell! More pretty girls on mountain bikes who think we trail running geeks are cool. I need a "cowbell" track on my music player, you know for those daydreams I told you about today, me running first and so on.
