Bad Biker
I'm a biker. I love my bike. I have bike racks on my car and bike clothes wadded up in the corner of my room. I've commuted by bike in the city, commuted by bike to the peninsula. I road ride, I mountain bike ride and I spin. I ride my bike THROUGH the city to get to the bridge to get to the other side unlike the alarming trend I see amongst my peers who DRIVE to the bridge or DRIVE OVER the bridge to then start their bike rides on the Marin side of things. But I digress. It goes without saying that I'm a fan of the bike and I'm fairly adept at maneuvering one to get from Point A to Point B without too much disturbance in the universal flow of things.
Which is why it makes me crazy to see morning bike guy riding down the MIDDLE of a lane on Cesar Chavez - a 3 line thoroughfare - during the MORNING COMMUTE, completely unconcerned with 20 cars driving slowly behind him waiting for the moment when they can swerve into another lane to get around him. Dude, you DO NOT have the right as biker guy to take over a whole lane going 12 mph. Especially not on Cesar Chavez and especially not during the morning commute. Learn to ride TO THE SIDE. We're much more tolerant if we know you're doing your equal share to be accommodating to everyone on the road. YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD TRYING TO GET SOMEWHERE. Learn another route, buy a map. Respect the communal space, man.
